Despite the situation in the world this past year 2020, India Jordan has ended the year with some well-deserved recognition and awards. They include Best breakthrough producer in DJ Mag, Breakout Artist for Pete Tong in his show on BBC Radio 1, Track of the Year in Resident Advisor, and being among the best tracks and artists of the year in Pitchfork, NME, Crack Magazine…
Simply impressive. All of which is fully deserved, this Doncaster-born, London-based artist is one to watch in the international electronic music scene. India Jordan has been playing residencies and clubs for the past decade, and it is in 2019 that she began her career as a producer. DNT STP MY LV was her first ep, received by critics and audiences with great expectation, followed by Warper. These two releases led her to enter the best of the year lists of the most prestigious British and international publications.
In May 2020 came his third ep, For You, which has earned him all the aforementioned awards and mentions. Even though she has obviously cancelled all the shows she was going to play in 2020, she has continued to receive recognition and her career is clearly on the rise.
The Doncaster native opens the year with an advance single from her next ep. The preview arrives on March 2nd and is called And Groove, a fresh, rhythmic electronica track, which India herself describes as follows: “And Groove was made at the peak of the first lockdown and is reminiscent of a train journey – a repetitive, rhythmic movement that goes on and on (And Groove!)” The ep is due for release on May 7th, and is titled Watch Out! and has movement, in both its literal and abstract forms, as its fundamental source of inspiration. India describes the album as “an homage to movement both physically and conceptually”. For example, one of the tracks on the new EP, Only Said Enough was created on a train to Hull, and many of India’s previous songs have been conceived in similar situations.
“Watch Out! is a bit a tongue in cheek reference to cycling in London,” adds India, who is a person with superlative energy that she brings to everything she creates. This ep is no exception, with fast-paced recordings such as You Can’t Expect The Cars To Stop If You Haven’t Pressed The Button. This spirit continues in the infectious track Feierabend, which is German for the end of the working day. In India’s words, “it expresses the joy you feel when you finish work”, which again links the ep to movement, recalling her traditional bike ride home.
The ep contains the following tracks:
1. Only Said Enough
2. Watch Out!
3. You Can’t Expect The Cars To Stop If You Haven’t Pressed The Button
4. Feierabend
5. And Groove
