When we reviewed his latest album in 1051 Magazine a few months ago, we said that it was a double pleasure to write that review. Today, we’ll even up the ante, it’s triple, because, first of all, we’ll discover a magnificent EP, we’ll celebrate the hundredth release of a label, and the culprit of all this is a remarkable artist born and living in our land, Valencia.
11 years ago, Sincopat was created to be the publishing vehicle for its founder, Marc Martinez aka AFFKT. It also opened its doors from the beginning to other emerging artists, apart from being the support for Marc to develop his personal sound with complete freedom.
That happened in 2010, and in 2021, on December 17th to be precise, the Plot EP will reach the world as the hundredth release of the Valencian label’s catalogue. And who better to sign this EP than the boss.
After the excellent taste that The Big Picture, his last album, left us with, Marc brings three of his trademark tracks, with two of them remixed by luxury guests, one on an upward trajectory and the others absolutely acclaimed.
AFFKT opens the fire with a track called Barrejat, a very Valencian name, which defines a powerful alcoholic drink that mixes cazalla and mistela, very typical in the bars of our land. A percussion base that hooks quickly is the beginning of the track, which is joined by a powerful ascending bass line, a pattern that completes the composition with the inclusion of robotic sounds to break the melodic line. Pure thunder for the dancefloor.
On remix duties, we have the Belgian Biesmans, who we also featured in 1051 Magazine recently on the occasion of the release of his album’s preview EP. Joris Biesmans specialises in analogue sounds and eighties effluvia, lending a cosmic orgy flavour to his remix of Barrejat.
Humperdoo is a track of great power in its original version, which shows the emotional control that Marc imprints on many of his tracks. It’s a narcotic trip to the dance without any concession whatsoever, that after taking you to that terrain provides an emotional jolt in its melody. And to remix, none other than one of Iceland’s best known international artists, with a list of dozens of remixes for the likes of Depeche Mode, Björk or Moloko. GusGus delivers their Nasty Disco Mix, almost seven minutes of deconstruction in their own style, with a danceable maelstrom that may be one of their best remixes in recent times. An unbeatable gift for Sincopat’s anniversary.
The EP closes with Tarambana, another meticulous work of rhythmic base (a section that AFFKT always takes great care of in all their productions), tuned to make an impact on the dancefloor, with patterns that remind us of acid sounds. A sonic journey of just over eight minutes that completes the EP with a closing track in style.
“The story of Sincopat could not have been written without the help and work of a great team behind it, the artists who support our music and without the people who dance and listen to our music, so thank you all so much for making it happen.” (AFFKT)
