As we always say in these cases, unless you’ve been living on Mars or under a rock it’s almost impossible that you don’t know who Audiojack are. But as anything is possible, we can outline that this duo from Leeds, UK, was formed in the first half of the first decade of the 21st century by Richard Burkinshaw and James Rial. Legend says that it was during a chance meeting in Ibiza in 2002, where they have taken up residence of late, and since then, their releases have seen the light of day on labels such as Crosstown Rebels, 2020Vision and Hot Creations, Tsuba, Leftroom and Culprit. They have remixed for labels such as Moon Harbour, B-Pitch Control and Diynamic, while Underworld, Groove Armada and Hot Since 82 are just some of the artists who have relied on Audiojack for their remixes.
This time, their music will come to us via their own label, Gruuv, where they haven’t done so for over a year, and they return with a three-track EP called Foundations. Three tracks of House with Breaks flavourings that have only one possible destination, the dancefloor, without further contemplation, without further complications. Music to have fun, to sweat and enjoy, a trademark of the house.
Vertigo opens with a vocal sample that gives way to silky synth pads and a fun, bouncy bass line before the classic base of any House banger. A perfect combination, followed by Missing, a cut with a hypnotic pattern that integrates the rhythm that serves as a prologue to emotive melodies. Finally comes the title track, Foundations, opening with unabashedly breakbeat rhythms and discordant pianos that raise the temperature on any dancefloor, something the Leeds duo have been doing for many years now with great success.
And in the guys’ own words… “It’s been almost a year since the last release on Gruuv, a hiatus which happened quite by accident really, but we’re happy to return this October with our Foundations EP: three tracks of pure, simple, no-nonsense club music that brings some positive energy as we return to the dance floors.
We’ve been dabbling with breakbeat recently and Foundations is a nod this way, but as breaks often divides opinion in the house scene we decided to lead this EP with Vertigo – a groovy house cut with a looped vocal which we’ve been using to start some of our sets this year to great effect and wedged in between is Missing; a deeply personal track and an ode to Jamie’s missing friend Shaun.”
Foundations EP will be available October 29th, pre order now here
