Legend says that, at the turn of the last century, in the German city of Hamburg, two guys named Jens Moelle and Ismail Tuefekci meet in a local record shop called Underground Solution. As they were regular customers, the owner of the shop, Ollie Grabowski, was looking for young DJ’s to play at some parties and mentioned to them the possibility of playing as a duo.
And thus was born the germ that would later rise to Digitalism.
Fast forward two decades, and Jens and Isi are still going strong together. In all these years, they have earned themselves a well-deserved reputation as musical agitators, who shamelessly cross over from genre to genre with absolute mastery and with excellent results.
After having recorded much of their production for Kitsuné, and for other labels such as V2, Virgin, EMI or K7!, around the year they founded their own vehicle to release their work from then on, Magnetism Records.
Digitalism spent a lot of time in their bunker studio during the pandemic, with a world tour on hiatus. It was a unique opportunity to, in their own words, “start writing and producing in the unknown”.
Hottest Record In The World is a bold, upbeat track, undoubtedly one of his best products of recent years, which, as always, is inescapably aimed at the dancefloor. It is partly a return to a part of his origins, to that magnificent French House, with all its classic elements, a round and round bass line, the looped samples, the merciless filtering and its corresponding valley that doesn’t make you stop dancing either.
The almost four minutes feels really short. If we were in a different era, we’d already be asking for an extended version or a remix 🙂
Release date, January 28th on Magnetism Records
