Solomun shares the first pair of remixes from his inimitable 2021 sophomore album Nobody Is Not Loved. He invites two techno peers with his immaculate remixes, Maceo Plex and Trance Wax (the revered alias of Belfast techno generator Ejeca).
“As a child of the 80s, I had long wanted to make a song with this special feeling, which would play with the appeal of the Punk and New Wave of that time. That’s why I was very happy when the band ‘Isolation Berlin’ and I got together last year and the song “Kreatur der Nacht” was born.”
This is what Mladen Solomun had to say about the track on his second album, Nobody Is Not Loved. The original responded very well to the author’s comments, but the remix that Maceo Plex has created enhances that eighties spirit, revisits it and adapts it to be a smash hit in any set.
Maceo Plex kicks off with a huge remix, using his archetypal studio sound. Massive extended synth tones are submerged in a thick layer of reverb, with quivering command lines dancing on top of the soundscape. Metrical drum grooves from a fusion of drum machines and intricate percussion loops form a bed for the robotic vocoder voices that sing Kreatur der Nacht. A brooding, nocturnal version of one of the biggest names on the dance music spectrum.
Trance Wax is up next with a slow, atmospheric remix of Night Travel. The Belfast native combines huge synth leads with vocoder vocals from the original and builds his trademark massive drops. Blurring the lines between trance and techno, the production wizard continues to deliver some of the best club sounds to date.
