It comes full circle to commemorate an important anniversary, as it is not an everyday occurrence for a label to stay alive and well for twenty-five years. Moodmusic Records have released a series of EP’s to celebrate their birthday, and today we bring you the fourth and last in this series.
Nothing better than to bring in some family friends for the occasion, artists who have recorded for Moodmusic before and now join in the celebrations with a couple of creations.
First up are Frank Beckers & Sandrino Tittel, better known as Frankey & Sandrino, who need little introduction… Calypso is the title of the track brought to us by the duo, which begins with a complex rhythmic base that subtly adds a hypnotic melodic pattern that accompanies us for almost seven minutes of narcotic trance, broken only by what could be completely synthesised tribal chants from other planets.
Another proof of the experience and musical wisdom that Frank and Sandrino treasure.
To close the EP and the series at Moodmusic, they have chosen another acquaintance, who began his relationship with the label in the nineties. Legendary name of the Finnish electronic scene, Tuomas Salmela, aka Phonogenic, creates for the occasion a beautiful sonic artefact called Utopian Lawrence. This piece of Dub-based, cosmic floating electronica lifts us to corners of outer space on a journey full of calm. We couldn’t agree more with Moodmusic in declaring it one of Tuomas’ best works.
Don’t miss a very interesting interview we are just finishing with Klas-Henrik Lindblad, aka Sasse aka Freestyle Man, founder and boss of Moodmusic Records. A journey through the label’s two and a half decades of history, and even beyond, from its birth in Turku to its current location in Berlin.
This latest EP in the MMR25 series is out on January 28th, available for pre-order now here
