Nicolás Saavedra is the real name of a man with a few aliases, such as Nico Saav, NIco/Icarus! or the one that appears today in our virtual pages, Kabinett. He has as many aliases as occupations within the music world, agitator of the electronic scene of his Bogotá as DJ and producer as well as acting as promoter or as founder and head of labels. Among these achievements, it is worth mentioning his residency at the famous Kaputt club in the Colombian capital and the founding of Nomada Records.
As a producer he has been releasing since 2015, always within the parameters of House, as well as Disco, Nu-Disco and Electro Funk.
His quality has brought him to the attention of Internasjonal Records, and the Oslo label will release two releases, which in turn will be the first two in the catalog dedicated to a single artist. Let’s hear what Nicolas himself tells us about these tracks that are released on Prins Thomas’ label:
“I like to explore a wide spectrum of sounds between dark dance and space disco made with analog synthesizers and drum machines in the eternal search for his own voice.”
This first release contains three tracks, opening with the EP’s title track, Space, pure cosmic beauty in mid tempo, with a pattern that makes it danceable with Nu Disco overtones and a surprising ending. It is followed by Danza, which raises the pulse of the EP with a powerful and captivating rhythmic entrance that channels a measured sonic chaos in the middle of the track. Closing the release is Lluvia, which raises the bpm another notch, with claps marking the rhythmic base and vocals with demonic distortion that incite to dance mercilessly.
No wonder Kabinett’s tracks have caught the attention of the guys at Internasjonal… looking forward to hearing that second batch when the time comes.
