In the 1051 Magazine office there are guilty pleasures and one of them is good, high quality Drum ‘n’ Bass, the kind that leans more towards that Soulful, elegant and hypnotic side.
Although it is not as fashionable as it was years ago, tremendous releases of this great style are still being released.
It is often heard in our loudspeakers, and all the more so when it is signed by someone like the one we are talking about today.
As we always say in these cases, it is almost impossible not to know who John Tejada is if you like electronic music. Composer, producer, remixer and DJ born in Vienna but based in Los Angeles, who began his musical production around 1994. His work has been released on such prestigious labels as Kompakt, Poker Flat Recordings, Cocoon Recordings, Plug Research, Seventh City Music, Playhouse, Defected and, of course, Palette Recordings, his own label which he founded in 1996.
The list of artists he has remixed is also endless: Bomb the Bass, Télépopmusic, Kevin Saunderson, Way Out West, The Field, Darren Emerson, Gui Boratto, Simian Mobile Disco, Jimpster, Marc Romboy, Kevin Saunderson…
When his name sounds, we bet that the vast majority of those who hear it will immediately associate it with high quality Techno and proven solvency. But just at the turn of the century, he had dalliances with Drum and Bass, alongside Tom Withers, better known as Klute, a British legend of this style, active since the mid-nineties.
Withers has brought Tejada back to Drum and Bass for the moment with the release of the EP Arise And Run on the Commercial Suicide label, founded by Withers twenty years ago.
John Tejada could navigate any electronic ocean with success, and in the case of his return to D’n’B he once again demonstrates his enormous experience and tons of elegance. Both Arise And Run, the EP’s title track, and Night Transit, which completes the release, exude taste and quality.
