In the 1051 Magazine office we are always interested in what’s going on at Harald Björk‘s label, Kranglan Broadcast. Because what usually arrives as a reference in its catalogue is always of high interest, never boring.
The new EP coming out on April 15th is no exception. A Swedish Soul legend, Kaah, who released his first album in 1998 and has built his style from Hip Hop and Funk. Peter Alexandersson was born in Gothenburg and grew up in Norrköping, and in his career he has had some approach to electronic music as part of SLS and now he enters again in this field with this EP called Gud Har Med Sig Så Många Namn.
The original track was released as a single in 2018 and was included on his album New Orleans, which came out months later. The original track, like the rest of that album, moved between Funk and Soul, a general rule in the Swedish vocalist’s career. But this time, the release features three remixes by Stockholm-based architect and producer CVRL.
All three remixes are full of energy, starting with the CVRL Rave Loon Remix, with rhythmic breaks and vocals appearing in ethereal fragments floating on synthesised pads perfect for a Rave between heaven and hell. The CVRL remix explores similar territory but with a broken Funky Drummer Beat and a more predominant and pure vocal presence, exuding a melancholic beauty. Closing the EP is the instrumental version of the CVRL Rave Loon Remix, to complete another release from the Swedish label.
