Maya Jane Coles reboots her alter-ego CAYAM for another dose of hard-hitting, late-night Techno power. She returns to her own I/AM/ME label, after releases on Alan Fitzpatricks’ We Are The Brave and Dense & Pika’s Kneaded Pains.
This EP follows the release of his album Night Creatures in October last year, which delivered a work with other tendencies and flavours, both more sedate and dense at the same time. Voicebox means a return to the dancefloor full of rhythm and energy, without concessions.
Voicebox takes vocal samples and subjects them to a series of patterns and processes in constant progress. Decontextualised semantics that form part of the rhythmic composition of a piercing, ever-moving drum groove. Accompanied by syncopated FM bass tones and trippy atmospheres, Voicebox is destined to be a breakthrough track on the dancefloor.
Connection (My Tribe) follows on the B-side, with a subterranean bass and kick undulating through the timeline, paired with off-kilter arpeggios that build subtly from the darkness. A robotic voice sings I Love – Connection, looped throughout this gritty and enticing piece of modern Techno music.
The British-Japanese DJ and producer, a Londoner by birth, returns to blow up the dancefloor as she has been doing for over a decade and a half.
