Scott McKay is the real name of Fear-E, a producer from Glasgow who has been releasing his tracks since 2016 on a multitude of labels such as Dixon Avenue Basement Jams, Don’t Be Afraid and Super Rhythm Tracks.

Today’s release brings him back to the catalogue of Dark Entries Records, the Californian label located in San Francisco where he had already released in 2019 the EP entitled Grey Skies in a Dear Green Place.

Mechanical Music For Brighter Days contains six tracks united by a booming energy, in which we can find journeys around the musical atlas of recent decades. Detroit techno, flashes of Chicago house, British raves, homegrown acid and a few other influences, all stirred, not shaken, into a complete mini-album.

 

 

Despite what it might seem due to this wide repertoire of influences, the result is tremendously fresh and without the smell of mothballs, the Scottish artist’s production has managed to combine all these fragrances to achieve a surprising release. Mechanical Music For Brighter Days is the result of the days of work that Scott has squeezed during the quarantine periods in recent times, which comes with an artwork by João Ervedosa very “acid” in colours and conception, which perfectly accompanies the musical content.
