Gernot Bronsert and Sebastian Szary began their musical adventure in the Berlin raves of the first half of the 1990s, and as Modeselektor they launched their recording career in 2001. On that occasion it was released on BPitch Control, the label of another illustrious Berliner, Ellen Allien, and since then, the duo has forged an impressive trajectory to become considered one of the most important names on the international electronic music scene. For all these reasons, no further introductions and introductions are necessary.
In 2009 they founded Monkeytown Records, their own record label, where this new EP called Mean Friend will be released on 23 April. It will come in two different formats, a double 12″ vinyl and a digital download of the eight tracks, and it brings important surprises…
On the track we can hear as a preview, Komm, the vocal part is provided by a legendary name in music history, Blixa Bargeld, leader of Einstürzende Neubaten and Nick Cave’s partner in crime in the Bad Seeds for many years. The track is a tremendous electronic journey into unknown dimensions with Bargeld delivering a speech that could be compared to that of Vincent Price in Michael Jackson’s Thriller.
But the surprises don’t end there, on another track of the release Brush Your Teeth Mean Friend we have the bass contribution of Bob Weston (Shellac) and the drums of Iggor Cavalera (Sepultura). The rest of the tracks are based on the title track Mean Friend, with remixes by DJ Stingray, Giant Swan and Telefon Tel Aviv.
Once again Modeselktor push the right buttons to stay relevant in the business and differentiate themselves from the rest in a relentless way.
