Bradley Zero’s Rhythm Section International label presents the second release of SHOUTS, a 21-track compilation featuring a diverse selection of artists whose music encompasses spoken word, DIY Funk, House, Techno, IDM, RnB and the many sub-genres in between.
SHOUTS 2021 highlights the dynamic journey and sound of the Rhythm Section International imprint, this time focusing on a global selection of completely new artists. An opportunity to shout about the next generation of musical talent from across the UK, Ireland, US, Middle East, Australia, Switzerland, and the Netherlands.
The Leeds-born, London-based DJ, producer and label boss talks about this enriching compilation:
“SHOUTS 2021 celebrates the future sounds of Rhythm Section International and explores our intention to diversify what the label is all about in the future. The direction and scope of the label has definitely expanded. You reach a tipping point when you want to explore other sounds you like and the beauty of being an independent label has allowed us to do that. The SHOUTS series gives us the opportunity to release many genres we love in one shot, and that has fueled our overall growth.”
SHOUTS 2021 boasts an incredible selection of a once-in-a-generation type of emerging talent. Kareem Ali, praised by the international music press for his cosmic house sounds , most notably the Quantum Blackness LP. The neo-classical artist CKTRL, who made a big impact with his beautiful track Robyn earlier this year. GLOR1A and Yokai the Deity’s remix for SHOUTS 2021 has its roots in the FDM, a dance movement in NYC that grew out of Jamaican culture. James Massiah, whose impressive spoken word opens the compilation. Sami, who is also co-creator of NPR’s Code Switch podcast. As well as Klein Zage, Adam Pits, Pookie, and too many more to mention.
The first SHOUTS compilation released in 2020 was a celebration of the 5 years of Rhythm Section, in which Bradley and label manager Emily Hill took stock of what the label had achieved, what was happening in the now, while also looking ahead. The pair had no clear intention of making SHOUTS an annual concept, but curating the debut turned out to be such a positive process, allowing them to work more spontaneously in A&R, that it seemed natural to continue.
In SHOUTS 2021, Rhythm Section International has expanded the network because of the pandemic that highlights how easy it can be to connect with people around the world through platforms like Zoom, which puts a positive spin on the last 18 months.
“We now have a global reach because of how easy it is to get on Zoom and make connections with people all over the world. Before the pandemic we waited until we could meet people face-to-face, and usually made plans with those closest to our South East London hub. In the last 18 months we’ve connected with artists we wouldn’t have before and explored new sounds, and that’s been really good”. – Emily Hill
