The most international musical duo from Aguascalientes, Mexico, and one of our favourites from that country, launches their new label, Creatures Of The Night.
And what better inauguration than a joint EP with a good friend, another great of today’s underground electronic music, Philipp Lauer. Few introductions are needed for the protagonists of this review… Lauer is a DJ and producer from Frankfurt, who is a resident of the legendary Robert Johnson club and whose discography spans over two decades and on labels as important as Permanent Vacation, Running Back, DGTL or Live AT Robert Johnson.
Canibal and Jenouise have toured clubs and festivals all over the world, their sets are downloads of energy and colour, full of wild eclecticism and good taste. Something similar happens with their live sets, in which synthesizers, percussion, vocals and effects create universes with an unmistakable house stamp. Zombies In Miami have been producing and releasing for more than a decade, and have done so on labels such as Bordello A Parigi, Internasjonal and Permanent Vacation.
And now they have created their own record label, Creatures Of The Night, and they open their catalogue with a fantastic EP called Michelada Brothers, with an exultant and colourful cover that is a perfect delay of what we are going to find inside.
Opening the release is Clamato, classic Piano House 100% effective on the dancefloor that is perfectly seasoned with an acid pattern without stridency. The EP’s title track follows, Michelada, that typical Mexican drink made with very cold, clear beer, lemon or lime juice, salt and spice. It begins with an ethereal looping pad that gives way to the rhythmic pattern that gradually takes over the whole protagonism. Closing the EP is Tom, who sails between Italo Dark Disco and Electronica.
We hope this new adventure of Canibal and Jenouise has a long and successful run.
