Another banger from Full Pupp – Christian Engh new EP

Another banger from Full Pupp – Christian Engh new EP

When we try to find information or images of Christian Engh, we are told by the label that Christian is an artist who likes to go unnoticed on a personal level and what really matters is his music.

And we couldn’t agree more with this statement, because his music really speaks for itself.

But let’s give a few facts. Norwegian, born in Oslo, and according to his own words, he has been dabbling in electronic music since the nineties. We also know that he plays from time to time at the legendary Jaeger in Oslo, where two usual suspects like Ivaylo and Prins Thomas are resident DJs, who have something to do with all this.

Christian has always recorded on Full Pupp (as in the case of today’s EP) or on his sub-label Rett I Fletta, both of which were founded by Thomas. Full Pupp was created and remains a vehicle for the promotion of Norwegian artists. Their first release came on an EP shared with the great Blackbelt Andersen, and since then, they have released a handful of high quality EPs.

On April 8th, Skywae, an EP with three tracks that are pure gold, will be released to the public. The EP’s title track, Skywae, opens with a classic house rhythmic pattern, upbeat and straight to the dance floor nerve, which is soon joined by a slightly distorted sounding piano and a gorgeous string section. Textbook house, which, if well executed, never fails. And Christian nails it, with just over seven minutes that are even short, with a beautiful and ephemeral Jazz break.

Next comes Tingle, whose title is perfect… This time Christian takes us to Chicago with a bassline and a pattern of that legendary House that was born on the shores of Lake Michigan, with distant reminiscences of the great Lil’ Louis. Impeccable shot to the dancefloor, a real gem and one of the best tracks we’ve heard in our office so far this year.

The EP closes with District Heat, which gives us a break after so much high tempo and sweating caused by the previous two tracks, with a slightly more relaxed Cosmic House.

After listening to this EP, we fully agree. Christian’s music speaks for itself, and in what a way.
