When house music went beyond Chicago and settled in New York, Nu Groove Records was its home in the city of skyscrapers. From 1988 to 1992, the New York label founded by Frank and Karen Méndez brought us important recordings, such as the first cuts by Kenny “Dope” González, Frankie Bones and Aphrodisiac, among others.

In 2017, Defected Records, true guardians of House music in our days, revived the label by bringing those tremendous recordings to the digital world. But now, apart from digital reissues, Simon Dunmore’s imprint has also decided to open up this Nu Groove era to new recordings, and the premiere came in the form of a 12″ vinyl. This special release brought together two House greats. On the one hand, Brooklyn native and Queens-based house legend Jovonn, and on the other hand, the most important artist of his country, Switzerland’s Deetron.

Following that vinyl release, now comes the digital edition of the two Deetron tracks that made up one of the two sides of the ep, Dr. Melonball and V-NRG. Two tremendous tracks of the most classic House, that disinfects the dancefloors with powerful bass lines and brilliant piano, two cuts that define that classic sound that came out of the suburbs of Chicago and was polished in the New York clubs.

Let’s hope that this is just the beginning and that Nu Groove, from Defected, will bring us more releases of this kind. The colour, sparkle and joy they give off is much needed in the clubbing world these days. You can buy these two tracks from Deetron on Beatport or Bandcamp.
