It was 2007 when Londoner Erol Alkan founded Phantasy Records. Over the years, Phantasy’s catalogue has been filled with an eclectic repertoire of names, from Chilly Gonzales and Daniel Avery to Manic Street Preachers and Ride. Interestingly, Erol´s first release on the label didn’t come until three years later after the inception of the label. But now, to celebrate it´s 100th release, Alkan is releasing Automatic, a track that Erol himself says he recorded months after founding Phantasy.

The track exudes aromas that can take us back to that time, but at the same time are not at all outdated. A cut of overflowing energy, filled with influences of French disco house with psychedelic touches and continuous filtering that make it tremendously original.

As almost always, any product of the Alkan factory always oozes quality, and this Automatic is no exception. Erol confessed that during his confinement due to the pandemic, he had been digging through old recordings and came across this track. “It feels like a natural celebration of a part of Phantasy’s sound and sensibility from our beginning to our future,” says the London-based producer and dj. A vinyl edition of 100 copies hand-numbered by Alkan himself sold out very quickly after being released and is available for digital download here.
