The story of one of today’s reviews is an interesting one. In our office, day by day we make a selection of new music, upcoming releases and news. And this release was on our pending list because it caught our attention… among the containers of Techno that arrive every week to our promo, it stood out for its originality and quality.

We always like to put a link so that whoever reads our review, can listen and even buy that release. Helping producers and labels is essential to keep this music we love so much alive for a long time. We didn’t have it beforehand and we started to investigate, and we contacted the author of the EP, who confirmed a text we had read a few minutes ago on his Instagram.

When we congratulated him and thanked him for his initiative, which is to donate all the profits from the sales of his new work to organisations in his country, Poland, that are working to help the Ukrainian people in such a humanitarian crisis, his response was categorical and direct:

“It was the one and only decision in such circumstances”.

In view of this, we will do our bit to help and make more people aware of his work and raise some more money for this noble and necessary cause.

The artist to whom we refer, and whom we again thank for his generosity, is the DJ, producer and radio broadcaster Piotr Figiel from Krakow, Poland. Formerly known for the DCM and Peter Feegle projects, since 2014 Piotr has been performing under his own name, focusing his work mainly on techno, IDM and hardware-based live acts.

His music has always been an eclectic mix of different influences, original sound design and great sound. Piotr’s work has been released on many Polish and international labels, among many dj and club gigs of live acts, Piotr also performed at Street Art Festival, Ars Cameralis Festival, Tauron Nowa Muzyka and had the honour to play at the legendary Instytut festival in Warsaw back in 2017.

Piotr hosted the radio show “Essentia Electronica” on Off Radio Krakow in 2015-2021. The show became one of the most important promotion centres for the local electronic music scene, artists, collectives and clubs in Krakow.

On this 4-track EP called White Lies you will find a slightly lighter side of Piotr’s music, although it is still dark, groovy, heavy textured and dancefloor oriented. It opens with the EP’s title track, which offers listeners a solid drum and groove sprinkled with house and shuffle and a surprisingly atmospheric breakdown. The grimy, grimy The Message, heavily infused with broken timbres, explores the darker, more haunting side of club music.

Next up, Hm Ah Argh and its anagram counterpart Hgra Ha Mh are deep dives into the minimal Techno vibe, closing the EP with simple old-school arrangements and evolving structures. These two tracks have been our favourites, receiving merciless continuous play for a few days now.

On the visual side, the EP is illustrated with a beautiful photo taken by Polish artist Lukasz Brzezinski aka. Holzwege.

The EP will be released by RWETES and available for free on Bandcamp from March 4th. Click here to donate and download it! (Available from friday March 4th, not before because it´s not possible when the release is free)
