A few weeks ago, we reviewed in 1051 Magazine the stupendous EP by Australian producer Retza, the second release from Satya Records, the Portuguese label of Frenchman YokoO.
Satya continues its release schedule this November with the Atman EP, a first collaboration between label founder YokoO and New York’s Atish. The four-track EP continues a remarkable 2021 for the label, which saw its first release in April this year (a superb four-track compilation EP called Basics).
“Despite having followed seemingly different musical paths over the past two years, our passion for Soulful and sincere Soulful music remains at the core and remains aligned. Atish’s initial musical ideas, however much they have morphed, are at the heart of the EP. They initiated the creative process. – YokoO.
The EP opens with Inner Labyrinth, a smoothly constructed dance cut replete with ethereal synths and dreamy pads.
The title track is an equally heavenly number, ideal for the early hours of the day, proving once again that simple is always extraordinary (and how difficult it is to compose and produce on that premise) before Words To Say ups the tempo with drum and cymbal combos. Sunrise master Sepp rounds off the EP with a stunning remix of what becomes a masterclass in stripped-down, minimalist house.
Frenchman YokoO is an appreciated talent in the electronic music scene. His releases on Lee Burridge’s All Day I Dream, as well as on his recently launched Satya label, have cemented his reputation for all things deep, emotive and dreamlike, while performances on five continents have highlighted him as a truly global artist. Based in New York, Atish has cultivated a devoted following around the world. As co-founder of the Manjumasi record label, he has created an outlet for other artists as well as his own productions, and his own work has been featured on prestigious labels such as Anjunadeep, Kindisch and Stil Vor Talent, among others.
