Manchester never disappoints when it comes to music. And Tom VR is a worthy representative of that long line of musicians and bands that the British city has produced. Last year we had the opportunity to review a preview of his album, Please Keep Shimmering, which was released in September 2021.

The Mancunian producer, as we said in that review of Soared Straight Through Me, the album’s advance single, escapes any capacity for musical labelling. He transitions between styles with incredible dexterity, and this was reflected on his second album, released on London-based Seb Wildblood’s label All My Thoughts.

He opens 2022 by presenting a remix package of the album featuring Midland, Peach, Lone and Kareem Ali.

Tom VR has been quietly developing his style beneath the surface. Recently his signature sound has blossomed into a series of records, including this album.

Please Keep Shimmering is inspired by the struggle against exhaustion and keeping the flame of creativity alive, against various odds. The result is a masterfully crafted journey of textured electronica.

 

This highly personal album has been reinterpreted by four artists close to Tom.

For his remix of Soared Straight Through, Midland captures the infectious feeling of hope that drives the album.

Peach ups the tempo and delivers a colourful reinterpretation of Partner. Lone chases jungle echoes on October and adds an extra dose of breaks. Finally, Kareem Ali offers a rework of Soared Straight Through closing the remix EP in fine fashion.
